Primarily it is a front-engined, rear open platform buses and a small number of variants were produced with doors and front entrances.
Northern Ireland's bus company the Wrightbus this week unveiled the design for the next-generation of London's double-decker bus. The new Routemaster will be looking something like above and was originally drawn up by Capoco Design - which has won the winning entry in the new Routemaster design contest. That drawing was given to Wrightbus and made ready for actual use on the streets of The Famous City. More Details & Video after the Jump!
The new Routemaster bus will launch mid-of 2010 and has been designed to create an icon using green technology. The bus features an extensive use of glass to highlight key features and produce a light and airy feel inside the bus. A glass ’swoop’ at the rear and offside to pick out the two staircases. An open platform at the rear, shared with the old Routemaster, which can be closed off at quiet times and which allows the reinstatement of a hop-on hop-off service. And a three doors and two staircases for smoother, speedier boarding and access to the upper deck.
The new Routemaster will use the latest green technology when it re-launches in 2012.
