The FT-86 Concept is a concept car manufactured jointly by Toyota Japan and Subaru Japan. The Toyota FT-86 consists of many design cues from the earlier FT-HS Concept “Hybrid Sports Car Concept” which was introduced at the 2007 North American International Auto Show.
Basically the FT-HS was designed by Calty Design Research and suggests that it could refill the place of Toyota Supra. FT-HS stands for Future Toyota Hybrid Sport.
The FT-86 designed are based on this FT-HS which were unveiled in 2007.
The FT-86 Concept was unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show in November 2009 and stated that sales will be begin somewhere late 2011. Rumours of a new small RWD sports car from Toyota had been on the wind for about two years since the debut of the earlier FT-HS Concept. Expected the FT-86 will be using a light front 2-liter engine RWD from Subaru-Toyota latest D-4S Boxer-Engine and six-speed manual transmission that will fit into the lightweight and aerodynamic body. The FT-86 rides on a modified Subaru Impreza platform with 101.2-inch wheelbase, with length, width, and height measuring 163.8, 69.3, and 49.6inches, respectively. A base price in the USD $20,000 range is expected when the car hits the market in late 2011 with a Toyota badge, with the Subaru version following shortly afterwards. It is expected that the Toyota and Subaru versions will be styled similarly on the outside, with the Subaru version getting different head and tail lights and a different hood. It has a 2.0 liter boxer engine mated to a Subaru 6-speed manual transmission though it’s not mentioned if it is normally aspirated or force inducted.
The name FT-86, which won't be the car's final name, harks back to the immensely popular Corolla AE-86 rear-drive coupe of the 80s, a car in which the famous Drift King and Japanese racing legend Keiichi Tsuchiya, started his career and from the famous Japanese comic, cartoon, and movie, Initial-D. For all the Hachi-roku fans out there, Sun Eishobo the main publisher for the Japanese Option magazine will be launching a new magazine early this year called, Hachiroku Damashii meaning The Soul of Hachi-roku.
Some rendered FT-86 by GlobeCLK/Seize www.miae86.com
Initial-D AE-86 style with 2pcs BBS LM. Nice matching colours on the rim.
Metallic blue like the GTR’s. TE-37 is not really bad on it. Don’t you think so?
Alpine White and another BBS rims. Silky smooth.
And again, this time its diamond black. Agent 007 should think of getting one of those.
Striking and absolutely stunning. Performances wise, we shall wait and see..
